Meet the Intern

Hello, my name is Blake Lockard. In the last year, I have been blessed with the amazing opportunity to intern at Blue Tent Marketing. So far I have learned a great deal of things that will certainly help me in the future as a front-end website developer.

I was born and raised in Glenwood Springs. As I child, I remember computers being a significant part of my life, as well as skiing and rafting. When my father used to work as a salesman for a local internet provider, he would bring me to work and help me find new games to play on the internet so that I would stay entertained. Ever since then, I have become fascinated with the web and everything it has to offer.

During my early years of high school, I began working as a webmaster for a non-profit in Carbondale called Computers For Kids. At C4K, I learned how to keep their website updated with current information. About a year or two after starting as the webmaster, Computers For Kids changed their company focus from providing computers to kids in need to providing kids with real world jobs that are in need. Thus, YouthEntity was born. I continued to be the webmaster for YouthEntity up until they started a program for students to design websites for local businesses in need of an affordable yet professional looking website. This branch of YouthEntity is now called WebEntity and is a great program for students that aspire to design websites. Since I started working there, several opportunities have come my way.

After working at WebEntity for about a year and a half, I decided that I wanted to take things to the next level. I asked my boss, Kirsten McDaniel, what she thought might be a good opportunity for me and she told me that she would look into it. Just one week later, I came in contact with Peter Scott, the President of Blue Tent Marketing. That summer, I began my internship at Blue Tent and continued to work through out the school year – all the while also maintaining my job at WebEntity and finishing up my last year of High School. Since my graduation in June 2012, I have learned a great deal about website design. In the past few weeks, I have made a pretty awesome WordPress site geared toward small businesses. I feel blessed with this opportunity and cannot wait to see what will come in the next year.

This fall I am starting school at Colorado Mountain College and will be studying Communications Design within the Walter Isaacson School for New Media. On top of this, I will continue working for Blue Tent, as well as manage student designers at WebEntity. As life continues to throw amazing opportunities my way, I plan to stay on the right path and do whatever it takes to reach my full potential in life!
