A Quick Guide to Handling Airbnb Cancellations from Hurricanes

By September 14, 2017 September 12th, 2018 Strategy

In response to the hurricanes and earthquakes that have affected so many in our vacation rental community, we would like to share quick updates from the Airbnb support team on how to proceed with cancellations, should you need.

Here is the step-by-step process:

  • Reach out to the support team and request a cancellation for each of the reservations affected: www.airbnb.com/help/contact_us
*Please note: you must be logged in to your Airbnb account to access help.
  •  From there, Airbnb will perform the cancellation.
    *
Typically a guest or host must initiate the cancellation
  • Since this is an extenuating circumstance, no penalties will be imposed on you, the host, for requesting the cancellation
  • Additionally, Airbnb will return a full refund to the guest.
    *
Under normal circumstances, if a guest initiates a cancellation, Airbnb only returns a percentage of the reservation costs as listed in the cancellation policy chosen by you, the host

Our team has been working diligently to help vacation rental managers and hospitality providers based in the affected regions in any way we can. Please reach out if our team can be of assistance to you as well. Our thoughts are with all who experienced Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and the earthquake in Mexico.
