Take advantage of the new travel revolution: Make your spaces comfortable for remote workers

One thing that we have learned in the last couple of years is that the work landscape has changed dramatically. As more people continue to work from home, the lines between living, working, and traveling have continued to blur. While business travel is still slow, more remote workers have realized that they can work from anywhere — taking “business” travel to another level. Remote workers, or even those who have left the workforce, are now choosing to rethink “home.”

We continue to hear stories of workers who are exploring new cities for a lower cost of living, relocation, or just to explore. Others have embraced getting away from it all to remote destinations and still others have become working nomads, travelling seasonally across the country. In fact, the trend is big enough to catch the attention of the national television networks, as seen in the CBS Morning Show interview with Brian Cheskey, CEO of Airbnb, linked here.

A common trait of this new breed of travelers is that they are looking for someplace that feels more like home. According to Chesky, travelers probably won’t find that in hotel accommodations. Read more of his insights here.

To your advantage, the travelling workforce is looking for vacation and/or longer-term rentals. For some, having a separate room for an office is necessary. For others, a laptop-friendly workspace (a desk, comfortable chair, good lighting, and a nearby outlet) is all they need. The key amenity is good, reliable, fast internet. Check out this article for more details on how to create a laptop- and worker-friendly space.

If you haven’t had the demand or begun to market to this group, now may be the time. As things are today, working from “home” is more than a passing trend — and one we hope you can take advantage of!
